This wedding has been long anticipated. I met Kelsey & Derrick for the first time two years ago at the Starbucks in Columbus, IN. Our history involves row boats, bicycles, Emmy (their beloved dog), a humid-as-hades summer engagement session, a fall morning engagement session at IU, and wedding chats over Indy’s best guac and chip. These two beautiful and vibrant humans are so special.
It poured rain on their wedding day. Heavy showers pounded the house as the girls got ready in the darling cottage on a little knoll at the Loft. Inside though, Kelsey was the sunshine, not letting the rains lessen her joy.
It was nothing short of divine intervention when the rains ceased and sunshine broke through thick gray clouds just 5 minutes before Kelsey and Derrick were to see each other for the first time and privately exchange wedding vows, with only Frank, myself, the officiant, and Emmy to bear witness. In the gentle quiet of the old barn, they exchanged sacred vows and my heart about burst with the beauty of the moment.
You see, they planned a wedding day that was deeply intentional and profoundly thoughtful, evident in things like their private exchange of vows, having Emmy as their flower girl-dog, and having a special dinner with just the two of them in the cottage during cocktail hour. The intention and thoughtfulness was reflected in how they interacted with their guests, laughed with their bridal party, and in their adoration, respect, and awe of one another.
