Love Story: Meghan & Pat

“Only the margin left to write on now. I love you, I love you, I love you.”
-Dodie Smith-

On the quaint main street of Bardtown (voted America’s most beautiful small town), Meghan perched delicately by the large storefront window for hair and make-up. The day was especially warm and sunny (actually, it was insanely hot!), and the atmosphere inside and around Meghan was peaceful. A few blocks down the the road, Pat sat in the breakfast nook of a historic, eclectically-decorated bed and breakfast writing Meghan a love letter that she would read before the ceremony.

Their ceremony took place in at My Old Kentucky Home State Park…under the welcoming shade of a large pavilion. They built a cairn of rocks as a memorial to their wedding day of covenant promises. It was the first time I had witnessed a couple building a cairn during the exchange of vows. The gentle process of building it and the powerful symbolism the final rock structure represented was wonderful to behold.

At the reception, Meghan’s dad gave one of the best speeches I’ve ever heard. Even I was tearing up behind the camera as he conveyed his adoration and pride for his daughter. Meghan and Pat kicked off the night with their first dance, and hours of rowdy dancing follow.

Meghan & Pat, may you continue to see build cairns of remembrance as you live out your marriage and life to the full.
