Love Story: Gina & Travis

We would be together and have our books and at night be warm in bed together with the windows open and the stars bright.” -Ernest Hemingway

The sun was high and the air was unseasonably warm (it felt like July on this particular September day) when I arrived at the Loft at Walnut Hill for Gina & Travis’ wedding.  Preparations were in full swing. Flowers were being added to the wooden arch at the edge of the rolling meadow where the small, intimate ceremony would take place. Gray bowls full of pale pink and white flowers were being added to the reception tables. Gina and her bridesmaids were taking turns doing one another’s hair and make-up.

The ceremony began as the sun was beginning its descent. It was ‘golden hour,’ and everyone and everything was bathed in warm, golden light. The ceremony was more personal than traditional. The mothers read bits of poetry. A friend of Gina and Travis acted as their officiant. Handwritten vows were read. They kissed, and walked down the aisle amid handfuls of confetti.

The sun was setting as cocktail hour ended and the official reception began. Strings of lights hung above the dance floor. The food was good. The music was loud. The mood was joyous.

Gina and Travis, may your marriage be full of extraordinary days. May you impact the people around you and the places you go in such a way that the world is a better place because you have been there.
